The SMAT-FISH Design Challenge was launched to inspire the development of a low-cost, mobile, and durable fish-hauling system tailored to the needs of coastal fishermen in Ghana. While the potential solution is applicable in all developing countries beyond the coasts of Ghana, this specific project has been co-hosted with the Ghana Scholarly Society.
Following the official call for entries, which ran from August 1 to September 30, 2025, we received an impressive number of submissions from talented individuals and multidisciplinary teams across Ghana and beyond. The level of creativity, technical insight, and passion reflected in the proposals demonstrates the depth of innovation within Ghana’s engineering and creative ecosystem.
We are pleased to confirm that the proposal submission phase has officially closed. All received entries have now moved into the expert review stage. Our evaluation committee, comprising specialists in engineering, energy systems, product development, and fisheries technology, is currently assessing each proposal for feasibility, innovation, sustainability, and relevance to the needs of coastal fishing communities.
This challenge represents Skittals Ltd’s commitment to supporting practical, scalable solutions that contribute to national development. We appreciate every participant who invested time and expertise into crafting their proposal. Your dedication strengthens the future of innovation in Ghana.
We will continue to provide updates as we advance to the shortlisting and subsequent phases of the project. Together, we are building solutions that can transform the fishing industry and create lasting impact.
